Explain that "Name Game" is a song that can help us learn our classmates' names.
Part A — Demonstrate the hand jive. Extend your least favorite hand, palm up. With favorite hand, perform this pattern repeatedly to the beat, encouraging students to join in:
Clap extended palm
Slap extended palm with back of hand
Pat hip
Snap
When hand jive is fluent, sing (or say) the words to Part A, encouraging students to join in.
Part B — Everyone snaps the half-note beat. One at a time, four students sing (or say) their names — My name is ________. All echo Your name is ________.
Part C — "Instant recall" Everyone claps to the half-note beat and calls the newly-learned names in reverse order to the beat.
Play the song so students can hear the full performance.
Play the accompaniment and begin the activity, mindful that at every subsequent Part B, four new names are added, so the "instant recall" for Part C is always four names longer than the previous Part C!
