Instructions
Review the song "The Itsy Bitsy Spider," using a spider puppet. As you listen to a new version of this song, sit down in a circle. Stand up when the spider tells you how to dance, then join in!
Walk three steps, count 1, 2, 3. Now freeze! Stand very still. Three more steps, count 1, 2, 3. Now freeze! Stand very still. Practice walking, then freezing.
Wiggle your fingers; wiggle your toes. Wiggle your head and wiggle your nose. Practice wigging fingers, toes, head and nose.
Now turn around, then give it a swing. Practice turning around slowly, then spinning around quickly.
Once the first verse is learned well with motions, practice the second verse.
Hop three times, count 1, 2, 3. Now freeze! Stand very still. Three more hops, count 1, 2, 3. Now freeze! Stand very still. Practice hopping on one foot, then freezing.
Wiggle your knees, then wiggle your hair. Reach your hands way up high in the air. Practice wiggling knees and hair, then ready your hands above your head.
Now turn around, then give it a swing. (same motion as before)
Sing and perform the motions for the entire song. If able, add snaps to the song. Let children take turns with the puppet while they sing the directions to the dance. Optional: give everyone a rubber spider to dance with.
