Instructions
While patting a silent beat on your lap, teach the song Let Us Chase the Squirrel by rote OR
Play the song. Repeat and invite students to sing along while patting the beat on their laps.
Invite students to sing your hand signs:
do do re re mi __
Challenge them to aurally identify the next pitch (sol). Continue with remaining pitches.
Challenge students to discover a "longer note" at the end of the song.
Teach students the singing game for the song.
FORMATION Partners stand apart from each other forming two lines like an alley, holding hands up high to form arches over the alley.
Sing the song Let Us Chase the Squirrel. On the word "Let" the two partners at the end of the alley let go of their arch and proceed through the alley under the arches until they reach the front.
The two partners at the front reform their arch.
The game continues with partners at the end of the line proceeding through the alley of arches as the group snakes around the room or down the hall.
