Materials
Optional: stuffed animals or photographs of a bear, clown, cat, and crocodile
Optional photo booth props or masks for bears, clowns, cats and crocodiles
Instructions
Stand up and spread out. Give yourself enough room to turn around in your own space. As you listen to the song, move to these words: Stretch up high; then crouch way down. Clap your hands as you turn around.. Can we clap our hands to the steady beat?
What people or animals were mentioned in the song? (bear, clown, cat, and crocodile) Show stuffed animals or photographs, if desired. What kinds of ways can each one move? (allow time to experiment with various movements for each character) Let's choose a movement to show each character. (Here are some suggestions, if needed.)
For example, let's move like this for the dancing bear: fists on your hips and rock side to side.
For example, let's move like this for the circus clown: Use jazz hands back and forth at your side.
For example, let's move like this for the kitty cat: stroke your long whiskers with your fingers.
For example, let's move like this for the crocodile: move your arms like big jaws in front of you.
Challenge: Can we keep a steady beat as we show each character? Sing the song again using the motions.
What is your favorite character? Sit in four groups: bears, clowns, cats, and crocodiles. As we sing the song again, stand up and perform when it is your group's turn. Optional photo booth props or masks may be used, if desired. Repeat as many times as needed to give students a chance to try another favorite character.
